The scenery „Eine handvoll Dollar“ (A handful of Dollars) was created for my degree after a three years of studying Photo Design at Lette Verein (school) in Berlin 2006.
I was fascinated with scenic photography the minute that I was introduced to Gregory Crewdson´s work. Inspired by his complex designed scenery work, I stage my own imaginations, my own stories in pictures.
My intention behind this work is to create pictures that unite art forms such as painting, comic strips, performance and acting and visualize them within my photography.
The lighting scheme employed in „Eine handvoll Dollar“ suggests the presence of a light source, which mirrors the aestethics of a classic painting. The narrative style is fragmented and concise, inspired by that of a comic strip, while the exposition and elaboration of the individual characters give the picture the dramatic atmosphere of a play.
The scenery and portraits are photographed on Dia 6x7 with a Mamiya RZ 67.
